Privacy notice
Last updated: 17 October 2026
The short version
- Anonymous. We never ask for your name, email or phone number, and there's no account.
- Groups only. You only ever see results for groups of 30 or more people, rounded to the nearest 5%. We never show exact counts.
- Short-lived. Your daily answers are deleted 7 days after that day ends. Only anonymous group totals are kept for our reports. Deeper-pack answers are deleted within 24 months.
- Your streak stays with you. Your streak, and a copy of today's answers, are kept only in your browser. We never receive your streak.
The details are below.
Who we are
SocialCensus is run by Oluwapelumi Raji. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), that makes them the "data controller", the person responsible for your data.

What we collect
When you answer, we save:
- your answers (a choice, or a range such as an income band)
- your age band (for example 22–25) and where you live (your state, or Outside Nigeria)
- the day you answered (daily questions) or the week (deeper packs)
We never ask for your name, email, phone number, exact age or exact income, and there's no account.
We never save your IP address, a device ID, a cookie ID or the exact time with your answers. We do use some of these for other things, explained below.
Sharing a card
A share card or link only says:
- the day or pack
- your archetype (which comes from your answers)
- the colour and stats you picked
It never includes your answers, your exact streak or a device ID. A streak card is one of three ready-made images: 7, 30 or 100 days.
When you tap Share or Save image, your browser fetches the card's image from our server. For that reason, our hosting company's request logs keep your IP address together with the card's day or pack and archetype for 1 day.
For a streak card, your browser fetches all three milestone images. The logs therefore show you reached a milestone, but not which one.
If you share a link to an app like WhatsApp or X, that app fetches the card under its own rules.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
We use your answers to:
- show you how you compare with others
- publish anonymous group results: the public Census of the Week roundup and a regular "State of Nigerian Youth" report
Legal basis: your consent, which you give when you start. You can stop using the site whenever you like.
SocialCensus is only for people aged 18 and over.
How we keep your answers private
- Group results only. We only show results for groups of at least 30 people, rounded to the nearest 5%, and never exact counts.
- Batched updates. Results update in batches. That's on purpose, so nobody can work out one person's answers by comparing results over time.
- No linking across days. We don't use any ID to connect your answers from one day to the next.
- One honest limit. Your age band and where you live are saved with each day's answers. So for the 7 days we keep daily answers, someone with access to our database could spot several days' answers that share an unusual age band and place.
Cookies, and what stays on your device
We set three cookies on your browser. Each lasts 1 year.
- sc_consent remembers that you confirmed you're 18+ and agreed to this notice.
- sc_about holds your age band and where you live. Your browser sends it to us on every visit, but we only save it with your answers when you submit them.
- sc_sid is a random code. We use it only to stop the same device answering the same questions twice, and to show you results for questions you've answered on this device. It's never saved with your answers, and the checks we make with it are deleted when each set of questions closes.
These stay on your device only:
- Your streak is never sent to us. Sharing a streak card sends no streak data.
- Today's answers. Your browser keeps a copy so you can see your results again today. It's deleted the next time you open SocialCensus after that day ends, or when you tap "Forget me on this device".
- Deeper-pack answers. They're kept in that browser tab so you can see your result, and are usually cleared when you close the tab. They're only sent to us when you submit.
Stopping bots and spam
- Human check. When you submit, Cloudflare Turnstile checks you're a real person. It only loads on the final submit step. To do this, Cloudflare processes your IP address and some browser details. We check the result once, then throw it away.
- Spam limits. We keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, usually for about 2 days. It's never connected to your answers.
Companies that help us run the site
We use a few trusted companies to:
- host the website
- run our database
- check that you're human
- send sign-in emails to our administrators
They only handle data to do these jobs for us, under their own security and privacy terms. Some of them may process data outside Nigeria. We rely on contractual necessity for these transfers, as they're needed to provide the service to you.
Our administrators' sign-in emails, and a log of what admins change, are about our staff, not visitors. Admin emails in that log are deleted after 24 months.
How long we keep things
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Daily question answers | Deleted 7 days after that day closes. |
| Monthly totals | Just before daily answers are deleted, the ones already in that day's published results are added to monthly totals: counts per question, age band, state and answer. Never per day, never per person. We use them only to produce each quarter's group results for our reports, with the same protections as the site. Once a quarter's results are made, its monthly totals are deleted too. |
| Deeper pack answers | Deleted within 24 months of when you answered. |
| One-answer checks made with sc_sid | Deleted when that set of questions closes. |
| Hashed IP for spam limits | Usually about 2 days. |
| Hosting request logs for card images | 1 day. |
| Group results (percentages for groups of 30+), including the public Census of the Week | Kept, and stay publicly visible, because they can't identify anyone. |
| Backups | Deleted data can stay in secure backups for a limited time before it's overwritten. |
Your rights
Under the NDPA you can:
- ask to see, correct or delete your data
- object to how it's used
- withdraw your consent
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission
The catch: we don't keep anything that identifies you with your answers, so we usually can't find your answers to show or delete them.
To withdraw consent and clear everything we've put on this device, tap "Forget me on this device" below, or clear this site's cookies and storage yourself.
